Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
by U2

It's Christmas ... baby, please come home
Yeah

The snow's coming down / Christmas
I'm watching it fall / Christmas
Lots of people around / Christmas
Baby, please come home

The church bells in town / Christmas
They're ringing a song / Christmas
What a happy sound / Christmas
Baby, please come home

They're singing 'Deck the Halls'
But it's not like Christmas at all
I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

Pretty lights on the tree / Christmas
I'm watching them shine / Christmas
You should be here with me / Christmas
Baby, please come home
Baby, please come home
Baby, please come home

They're singing 'Deck the Halls'
But it's not like Christmas at all
I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

If there was a way / Christmas
I'd hold back these tears / Christmas
But it's Christmas day / Christmas
Baby, please come home / Christmas
Home / Christmas

Baby, please come home / Christmas
Baby, please come home / Christmas
Baby, please come home / Christmas
Home / Christmas

Baby, please come home / Christmas

i just sent an email to SIM..

"Hi,

What I intend to mention below is just a small opinion together with a little suggestion to the situation. It is not meant to criticise anyone or any system nor do I wish to offend you.

I've noticed the high costs and trouble of getting new textbooks everytime a new semester starts for SIM-RMIT students. And it's not likely to find full-time students who can afford to do so as most of us find it hard to find much spare cash after paying the school fees. I do realise that there are cases where students find difficulty to even pay the school fees.

In the long run, the situation of buying new textbooks (which MAY even end up not being worth buying given the chance that some students seldom refer to their textbooks for answers) for every new semester increases the financial burden of each and every one of us students.

Hence, would it actually be possible that the co-ordinators squeeze out some time to maybe create a programme where the students from different intakes are able to sell textbooks to each other "over the counter"?

For example, the 5th intake selling their used textbooks to 6th intake and 6th intake selling to 7th intake, assuming that the textbooks required remain unchanged.

I have searched for other options such as going over to the 2nd hand bookstores at Bras Basah, appealing on forums to buy specific textbooks.

It is also due to the impression that we are paying for books priced over and above $50, which we will only need for at most 5 months.

For example, for BDEFT 6th intake students, we will have to fork out a total of $282.10, which is close to $300.

Together with the course fee of approximately $5300, even if the students work part time (hence accumulated savings of $200 a month after deducting daily expenses) throughout the semester, it may be impossible to raise that amount of money. And not forgetting that we have to pay for the paper and ink (that oh-so-expensive ink) when printing lecture notes.

Since it is presumed that it is near impossible that the course fees be reduced, I would like to suggest that we do something about the books.

I'm not asking for any help in getting free-of-charge textbooks, but for us students to gain greater access to buying textbooks from seniors at cheaper rates.

Otherwise it may drive us to using desperate means of example, illegal photocopying of books.

Please, help the students.

Regards,
Eunice

PS: do consider this suggestion and reply to my email at wingylove@hotmail.com instead of hfying001@sim.edu.sg as I rarely use that account.

I apologise if I have made unjust observations or performed any unacceptable behaviour expected of an SIM student."

Michael Puhaindran relives the happy times– and the anguish of last chat with his wife

LIKE all newlyweds, their marriage had its teething problems — she worked long hours as a lawyer, affecting the time they spent together.

But months before she was taken hostage and killed in the Mumbai terror attacks, Ms Lo Hwei Yen and her husband Michael Puhaindran sat down and had a chat that helped bring them closer.

“She was busy at work, we were having the occasional tiffs, but when she understood what she meant to me, she really was my entire life ... The last few weeks of her life with me were really, truly wonderful,” he said. ”I cannot describe how happy I was ... I think we had achieved some new level in our relationship, and that’s why what happened is even harder to talk about.”

The couple got married in Bali last year.

Speaking to the media for the first time yesterday since Ms Lo’s death, Mr Puhaindran, 37, was calm throughout the 45 minutes, losing his composure only when he recalled the last conversation he had with Ms Lo over the phone while she was held hostage at Mumbai’s Oberoi Hotel.

On Wednesday last week, at around midnight Singapore time, he received a call from Ms Lo, who said she and her co-workers had heard gunshots while having dinner.

“She sounded calm, but there was a slight note of urgency in her voice,” he said.

Later, she called to say she was waiting for the police, but did not answer her mobile phone for hours. Then, she called at about 5am on Thursday.

“She was talking in an extremely steady voice, she was very brave, she said she was being held hostage by gunmen, and (gave) the message (from the terrorists for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). She didn’t want me to panic, she was so strong,” he recalled.

In what would be their final conversation later, Ms Lo, still calm, again relayed the terrorists’ demands — they would harm her if Indian security forces continued to storm the building.

“Only in her very last sentence, did she say ‘please tell them to hurry up’, and that’s when I couldn’t take it and I told her I loved her so very much, and she said the same thing,” said the lawyer, his voice breaking. “Those were the last words.”

Describing Ms Lo as a “feisty” and “selfless” person, Mr Puhaindran said:“I never even wanted her to get wet in the rain. I would do all I could to make her life as smooth as possible and, mind you, she would do the same for me. Needless to say, being unable to protect her, it was ...” and his voice trailed off.

They met when he bumped into her and a mutual friend at Raffles Place. They did not speak much, but her smile left a deep impression on him. “I asked Sandy (the mutual friend), ‘who’s the babe?’”

When he ran into her at a Spinelli’s outlet later, he asked her out for lunch at the Fullerton Hotel. Eight months on, he proposed while they were holidaying in the Maldives.

“She said she knew it was coming, because I had been asking her leading questions,” said Mr Puhaindran. “Being the lawyer, she was quite sharp.”

On the final night of Ms Lo’s wake yesterday, her friends gathered to celebrate her life. “We’ll be talking about her and we will be drinking champagne. We will be remembering her the way she wanted to be remembered,” he said.

Science vs Romance - Rilo Kiley

Science vs Romance - Rilo kiley

this song sounds cute when playing on my cocked-up office computer - it increases the pitch for everything!! gals end up sounding like cartoon characters, guys end up sounding like eunuchs!!

i used to think if i could realize i'd die
then i would be a lot nicer
used to believe in a lot more
now i just see straight ahead

that's not to say i don't have good times
but as for my days
i spend them waiting

crash sites keep me up at night
impact division it splits in two
directly underneath you

as for those things (as for those things)
that act as markers in your life
but in between (but in between)
you can't remember
and so it seems (and so it seems)
that you've grown up and over me (up and over me)
and these silly things (these sill things)
i like to dwell on

test sites keep me up at night
chainlink and meters
i talk to you
it's cold out there
but i'm telling you
i'm lonely too

facts versus romance
you go and call yourself the boss
but we're not robots inside a grid

text versus romance
you go and add it all you want
still we're not robots inside a grid

zeros and ones

The Boy Does Nothing - Alesha Dixon

I got a man with two left feet
And when he dances down to the beat
I really think that he should know
That his rhythms go go go

I got a man with two left feet
And when he dances down to the beat
I really think that he should know
That his rhythms go go go

CHORUS
Does he wash up? Never wash up
Does he clean up? No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up? Never brushed up
He does nothing the boy does nothing
(Repeat chorus)

Hey boy how you been?
I got a thousand lines
Where do I begin?
And II been here, been there
Traveling
I saw you at the corner
My vibe kicked in

And
Two fields
I clock you
Wearing tight jeans
A real nice suit
He was smiling like you
Was just seventeen
I asked him for a dance
He said ‘yes please’

Take a sip of dancing juice
Everybody’s onto you
Through the left and to the right
Everybody hit the rhythm
It’s on tonight
I’m gonna feel the heat within my soul
I need a man to take control
Let the melody blow you all away

CHORUS
Does he wash up? Never wash up
Does he clean up? No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up? Never brushed up
He does nothing the boy does nothing
(Repeat chorus)

Work it out now
Work it, Work it out now

Do the mumbo
Shake it all around now

Everybody on the floor
Let me see you clap your hands

I wanna see you work
I wanna see you move your body in turn
I wanna see you shake your hips and learn

I wanna see you work it, work it, work it out now

I wanna see you work
I wanna see you move your body in turn
I wanna see you shake your hips and learn

I wanna see you work it, work it, work it out now

CHORUS
Does he wash up? Never wash up
Does he clean up? No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up? Never brushed up
He does nothing the boy does nothing
(Repeat chorus)

And if the man can’t dance, he gets no second chance
