the title of this blog entry, is wad im gonna talk about.
ever since i heard on the radio news that this time budget surplus was actually hovering above S$6 billion - that is S$6,000,000,000 - i felt so damned pissed.
simi "happy mistake"? simi "pleasantly embarrassing"?
it's happy for the govt that they get more revenue to spending more expenditure. it's pleasant for them to have extra cash in their pockets.
but from where do they get the money huh?! us, consumers!!
those with income, we paid.
those without income, we paid.
so everybody paid.
pple may think, 7% GST.. NTH MUCH MA.
it is smth much. imagine when you make a payment of $1000, you end up paying $70 to the govt. skool fees for this sem was $3700 approx, so the govt happily took another $259 from each student in my lecture group. not to mention the foreign students who needed to pay an extra $1500 for tuition fees. but let's look at the local students. say, there are close to 160 students in my group. deduct away 10% of students who are foreign. so there are 144 students paying $259 EACH. so from one small group of students who are not receiving any form of income besides those doing PT, the govt gets $37,296 into their pockets.
big sum huh, that can sponsor me for another degree course and get around 10k remainder.
to think that those who did the forecast - so-called professionals - said that there would be a budget deficit of 700 million. wad a conservative and convenient estimation huh. so they conveniently came up with the hike.
so next time they predict another deficit and end up having a surplus which is NINE TIMES the size of the deficit, im so gonna join the government. well, they're getting so much money, share some with me la. this type of profits, MUST share rite?
and now they happy happy say "oh, im gonna give you angbao, be glad. we're not obliged to give in the first place. and we're giving a lot k?"
yea rite, they are giving a lot. well, they're just returning us a paltry sum of money compared to the amount of money we submit to the govt.
and the poor students who contributed to the GST income didnt even get a single share of the angbao.
NO FAIR.
